Ferdinand Weber

Here something for fun I drew for bluehunter that somewhat related to his comic on Max Weber's fictional father when he was a young pup himself fighting in the Great War. Here is his info, which are half and half from bluehunter's ideas and mine.

Here we have 19 year old Ferdinand Weber in a posed photograph to send to his family back in Prussia, dated around New Years 1916. As we look closely at his chest, we find something shiny on his M1907 simplified field tunic. He proudly holds the honored Iron Cross 2nd Class, won for bravery actions in combat against the French enemy. Another new sight, it seems he got a promotion to corporal after he was decorated. Ferdinand Weber started training back in October of 1915 and was later assigned to a unit holding the front along Verdun in December. He met new comrades in his new unit, the 14th Infantry Regiment, and he seemed to get along with them nicely. He earned the nick-name "pup" because of his age and size among the seasoned veterans, but he didn't mind at all, he liked it. Since he was new, he was given less dangerous jobs, like cleaning the latrines or carrying the mail to the frontlines. The bond between him and his comrades grew as they shared stories of their pre-war lives, where they came from, their mates, and what they expect to do after the war ends. He felt strong when he fights next to them when driving off French attacks, but he was hit hard when ever a friend he knew was killed or seriously injured by shrapnel or gas attacks. He became wounded twice while fighting around the vicinity of Verdun and the Somme, but his comrades joined in to help him get to the medical stations behind their lines. His injuries weren't mortally serious, but it took months before he fully healed. During his stay at the station, he met a very beautiful German shepherd nurse, who also was in love with him as well. After the war came to an end, they later married each other and had three pups of their own. Ever since the war ended, he never retold his stories when he was a soldier, and prayed to god that there will never be another war like that again so that his children can live a better future.

Just a made-up story just to fit the picture.
